What it was

The opposite of Microsoft.

Born in Albania in 2016, Softmogul set out to do one improbable thing: put an entire hotel in your pocket. One all-in-one, fully mobile platform that wove together property management, channels, bookings, housekeeping, point of sale, events and payments, and made them work as a single living system.

It grew from a simple idea into Albania's biggest startup, crossed the ocean, and ended up serving hotels around the world.

THE NAME
Soft·mogul — coined as the mirror image of Micro·soft. Where one went small and rigid, this one would go big and human.

THE FOUNDERS
Albi Zhulali & Arnold Drita

THE MISSION
To build a complete hotel operating system.

THE VISION
Enabling any hotel in the world to use technology.
The run

From a Tirana idea to the world stage.

2016

The founding

Albi Zhulali and Arnold Drita start Softmogul with a contrarian bet: hospitality software could be mobile-first, beautiful, and genuinely simple.

SEPTEMBER 2016

A world first

The Reception app launches on the App Store — the first ever fully mobile hotel PMS in the world, putting the entire front desk in a pocket.

EARLY YEARS

Albania's biggest startup

The team scales to roughly thirty people across offices in Albania, Italy and the United States, and takes home a Mobility award at the fifth edition of the ICT Awards.

SILICON VALLEY

Into Plug and Play

Softmogul becomes the first Albanian startup, and its founders the first Albanian founders, to join Plug and Play Tech Center in Silicon Valley — one of the largest accelerators in the world. After the program, Softmogul moved its headquarters to New York City.

MARCH 2018

An industry legend on board

Hospitality expert and television personality Anthony Melchiorri joins Softmogul as a member of the board of advisors.

JANUARY 10, 2019

A new identity

Softmogul retires its original network-of-nodes mark and rebrands — the hidden S and M redrawn as a pair of interlocking ribbons, the logo it would carry from then on.

THE PLATFORM ERA

Preserved

Look closely and both marks hide the same letters — an S and an M, for Softmogul. The first traced them as a constellation of connected nodes; the 2019 rebrand folded them into a pair of interlocking ribbons. Two marks, one name. Websites don't really die; they get archived, and every version of softmogul.com lives on in the Wayback Machine.
